* In the postwar period, the British Royal Air Force operated a set of three types of long-range jet-powered strategic nuclear bombers, including the Vickers Valiant, the Handley-Page Victor, and the Avro Vulcan. All three "V-bombers" would have noteworthy careers -- but the Vulcan, with its distinctive delta-wing configuration, remains a particularly fond memory for British aviation enthusiasts.
