* In the late 1950s, the Sikorsky helicopter company began investigation of a new generation of rotorcraft, using turboshaft instead of piston power. The main result of this effort was the "S-61 Sea King" naval helicopter, which was a mainstay of Western naval forces for decades. This document provides a history and description of the Sea King family, including its "S-61R" offshoot; the series of Sea Kings built by Westland of the UK; and the Sea King's smaller sibling, the Sikorsky "S.62".
