* In 1954, the Boeing company flew a "Dash 80" prototype for a four-engine jet airliner / tanker. The Dash 80 led to the "Boeing 707" jetliner and Air Force "KC-135" tanker; the 707 proved highly successful in civil and some military service, while the KC-135 was adapted to a large number of roles, such as flying command post and reconnaissance platform, and remains in declining service in the 21st century. This document provides a history and description of the 707 and KC-135 family.
